We are throwing a sit down dinner party for our mother's 80th birthday. We will have 200+ guests. We all agree we should use yellow roses for the centerpieces because those are my mother's favorite flowers. Reba and our sister, Elsa, went to talk to the lady about the tables and flowers and before things are finally decided, I wanted to share some looks I liked. I would like the party to be deeply personal and capture not just my mother's, but also, my father's journey. For this reason, navy and yellow is speaking to me. When my mother ran for public office in our small town, those were the colors of her campaign posters/stickers/cards. They are also the colors for the advertisements for our family business. I worry it will seem cheesy because we do use those colors for the family business, but at the same time, there are memories attached to those colors. I remember learning way back when my mom chose these colors for her election ad campaign, that black and white have the most impact in advertising because they have the most contrast and yellow and dark blue have the second most impact and my mom deciding she'd use yellow and blue because it looked prettier than black and white. The site for the party will have gold chairs like the ones above, and I like how the dark blue table cloths, the white centerpieces, blue napkins and gold accents work together.
